Terms of use

Plain terms for a small site. Using BoxShare means you're happy with these. If you're not, don't use it — no hard feelings.

What BoxShare is

BoxShare is a noticeboard run by Ross Cadogan in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. It lets people in Ireland show a roof box or bike box they're willing to lend, and lets other people ask to borrow one. Any actual arrangement is between those two people. BoxShare is not a party to it, is not renting you anything, and is not an agent for either side.

Your account

  • Use your real name. The whole thing runs on people being who they say they are.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account — keep the password to yourself.
  • You need to be 18 or over.

Listing a box

  • List only a box you actually own and are entitled to lend.
  • Describe it honestly — condition, fit, and what's included. Photos should be of the actual box where you can manage it.
  • Keep your availability accurate. If you also lend the box elsewhere, block those dates here. Double-booking someone's holiday is the fastest way to make this site useless.
  • The rate and deposit you set are what you're offering. You can set either to zero.

Borrowing a box

  • Turn up when you said, and bring the box back as you found it.
  • Check the box fits your car and that you're within your vehicle's roof load limit. That's your call, not the owner's and not ours.
  • Pay what you agreed, when you agreed it.

Money

No money passes through BoxShare. Rates and deposits are agreed and settled directly between the two of you. BoxShare holds nothing, guarantees nothing, and refunds nothing, because it never had it. There's a fuller explanation on the deposits and handover page, and it's worth reading before your first borrow.

What we're responsible for

We'll run the site carefully and honestly. We can't promise it's always available, that a listing is accurate, that a box fits, that a person turns up, or that a deposit comes back. BoxShare isn't liable for loss or damage arising from an arrangement between two users, or from anything on a listing that turns out to be wrong. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Reviews and content

Write reviews from actual experience. What you post stays yours, but you're giving BoxShare permission to show it on the site. We can remove content or an account that's false, abusive, or being used to advertise something else — and we'll say why if we do.

Ending it

You can stop using BoxShare whenever you like and ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@boxshare.ie. We can close an account that's breaking these terms.

The legal bits

These terms are governed by Irish law, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction. If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If the terms change, the date at the top changes with them.
